Philip Allan Ruggeri was born in Providence, Rhode Island on February 10, 1947. He was the fourth of five (5) children born to Ralph and Barbara Ruggeri. He passed on Sunday, July 30, 2023 at the age of 76.
When he was 14, his parents moved the family to Newport, where he was confirmed and took the additional name David…Philip Allan David Ruggeri. David was the name given his older brother, who died as an infant.
Phil or The Rug, whichever name you knew him by, graduated from Rogers High School in Newport in 1966 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He spent four (4) years in the Air Force, two (2) of which were at Sembach Air Base in Germany, a year in Turkey, and a year in Louisiana. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force in July 1970. He married Cher in 1970, and they moved to Newport. In 1971, they returned to Oklahoma. Their son, Tony, was born in 1975. He married Peggy in January of 1989. At some point, he enlisted in the Army National Guard of Oklahoma and was honorably discharged in 1989.
Phil was employed by Printing, Inc. and then with the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier retiring in 2001.
He loved cars and guns and guns and cars. Being born and raised close to the ocean, he also loved water.
Phil was predeceased by his parents, Ralph Philip Ruggeri and Barbara Constance (O’Reilly) Ruggeri. He was also predeceased by all of his siblings, Ralph, Janet, Leslie and David.
He is survived by his son, Anthony (Tony); his daughter-in-law, Irina; and his granddaughter, Valerie, as well as several nieces and nephews Ralph, Rocco, Vinnie, Gina, and Domonic.
A memorial service for Philip will be held Saturday, August 5, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home, 8805 NE 23rd Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73141.
