Peggy Jo Mauldin, 78, of Oklahoma City passed away Monday, July 20, 2020 at her home surrounded by her family. A service will be held on Friday, July 24th at Southern Hills Baptist Church in Oklahoma City at 10am. Pastor Doug Melton and G.D. Hardy will be officiating. Peggy was born on August 10, 1941 in Dallas, TX to Fred and Charlotte Davis. Charlotte passed away before Peggy turned one and was raised by Fred’s second wife, Jaunita, who she affectionately referred to as “Mother”. Peggy, her sister Joyce and brother, Jimmy were always close as only siblings can be. Peggy married Derrold ‘Sonny’ Niles and had three children, Sherri, Derrold Dewayne and Michael. Peggy lost Dewayne to pneumonia in 1961. Peggy and Derrold divorced in 1964. Peggy was resilient and was committed to providing for her children. As a single mother in the 1960’s, Peggy was a licensed cosmetologist and purchased a home. She opened a beauty shop in the back of her house to provide for her family. She also became an active member of Southern Hills Baptist Church. Peggy married Rick Mauldin in 1967, and had one son, Dane, in 1970. Peggy continued operating the beauty shop through the 70’s until she went to work in the oil industry for A1 Bit & Tool as the office manager. Peggy later went to work for Credit Adjustment Company as their Vice President of Operations through the 80’s and 90’s. In the meantime, she saw her family continue to grow. Her and Rick were avid golfers and enjoyed spending time together and traveling with their many friends and grandchildren. Peggy then worked for Southwest Airlines for 10 years. As her working career came to an end, Peggy continued to remain extremely active as her work ethic almost required she be ‘doing’. She volunteered frequently and remained extremely active with her Encourager’s Sunday School Class at Southern Hills. Her fierce pursuit of helping those less fortunate in the name of Christ earned her the nomination for KFOR’s Pay It 4Ward in 2015. While being interviewed, Peggy said, “if you have a pulse, you have a purpose”. She performed tireless work at the Coat Closet at the church, continued to play golf regularly, and took a part-time job at Broadmoor Golf Course which she said was her “favorite”. Peggy was a role model for her immediate and extended family, and to all of those she encountered. The words used to describe her included beautiful, caring, direct, loving, family-oriented, shrewd business woman and extremely active – to her family, she was clearly the matriarch that kept everyone in-line and connected. Peggy battled cancer over the last two years the same way she lived her life, unapologetically and to the fullest. After 78 years she will be getting some much needed rest and is once again with her dearest Rick. She will be dearly missed and the life lessons she provided will live on through her family. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Joyce Whitaker and her husband Whit, son Derrold Dewayne and her husband of 45 years, Rick. She is survived by her brother and family, Jimmy & Vickie Davis and their son Jimmy; her daughter and family Sherri Niles, Damon, Christopher & Shane; son and family Mike & Kay Niles, Jason & Jessica Davis, Sarah & PJ Brown, and Larah Niles; son and family Dane & Sara Mauldin, Allyson, Rachel and Olivia; ten great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family. If desired, in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Encouragers Coat Closet & Pantry at Southern Hills Baptist Church in Oklahoma City.
