Pauline was born in Oklahoma City on November 4, 1937. She was preceded in death by her parents Helen M. and John E Mize. She attended Northeast High School graduating in 1955. Throughout her life, she continued her friendships with her Sigma Ti Falae Sorority sisters and was proud to have been the Nu Epsilon Omega Sweetheart. While in high school, Pauline met and fell in love with Don Main. They married in June and quickly moved to Florida where Don was stationed in the Navy. Upon completion of officer’s training, the couple moved to Panama where their daughter Donna was born.
After Panama, the family moved back to Oklahoma City and Don began working for IBM. Their daughter Christy was born soon thereafter and years later their little “surprise” but welcomed son Ronald John was born. IBM took the family to Shrub Oak, New York where Pauline soon grew to love her Italian food and Jewish delis and her frequent trips to NYC to shop and see Broadway plays. She also began furthering her devotion to Christian Science and her deep friendships she developed through her church.
The next move took the family to a suburb of Houston – Clear Lake City, Texas. While Pauline loved the adventure and travel she found while living in New York, she was glad to move closer to her home and parents. The family made frequent trips to the beach and enjoyed their new neighborhood and friends. After a couple of years in Texas, the next move was back to OKC.
Pauline was glad to be home again and closer to her aging parents and old friends but after a few years Pauline and Don divorced. She found a new interest in her volunteer work at the Mummers Theatre and Lyric and began working various jobs before ending up in the insurance industry. She soon met William T. Smith and they married in 1978. Pauline and Bill loved their time together and enjoyed going to antique car shows, long road trips and going to their weekend hide-away at Arbuckle Lake. They had a wonderful and fulfilling life together until his unexpected death in 2000.
Pauline loved life and cherished her family and friends. Her beautiful smile and endearing personality will be missed by all who loved her. She is survived by her children - daughter Donna and husband David Evans, daughter Christy and husband Mark Zelley, and son Ron and wife Audra Main, and seven beautiful grandchildren – Kyle and wife Rachel Evans, Kacy and husband Bret Weigel, Taylor Evans, Tiffany Evans, Natalie Main, Caitlin Main, and Samantha Zelley (and two great grandchildren expected in June and September!) The family would gratefully like to thank the staff at Quail Ridge Assisted Living Center for all of their care and loving support.
