Patricia Lee Ware Barber was born in Butte, Montana on November 4th, 1931 and passed away peacefully at home on January 21st, 2024 after visits from all of her loving family. Pat lived in various Oklahoma towns from age 4, graduating from Moore High School and then from the University of Oklahoma with a Bachelor's in Education in 1955. Pat married Van Barber in 1954 with their upcoming 70th anniversary on February 13th, 2024. She taught at Southeast High School in OKC and was a devout Christian Scientist for over 70 years. Pat valued young people and their abilities and aspirations, and ran a Writer's Award scholarship program open to graduating seniors from the three Putnam City high schools from 1975-1981. She was a published poet, and edited novels, short stories, and memoirs. Pat was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother along with being a remarkable cook, an avid reader, and an imaginative, creative woman who never said an unkind word about anyone.
Pat is survived by her beloved husband Van and her children Drew (Rick) Gillum and Clay Barber, her grandchildren Kyle (Lizzie) Gillum, Kaela (Kyle) Hawari, Cole (Rachel) Gillum, Dallas (Macey) Barber, Taylor Barber and 8 great grandchildren.
Memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm, Saturday, January 27, 2024 at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Funeral Home 6600 Broadway Extension, Oklahoma City, OK 73116.
