She was born Pamela Jane Sansbury on April 28, 1954, in Dover, New Hampshire, the daughter of Mary E. Sansbury and the second of two children. She is predeceased by her mother, Mary E. Sansbury.
She grew up in North Berwick, Maine, graduating from Noble High School in 1972. An avid reader and seeker of stories, she graduated Cum Laude from the University of New Hampshire, earning a B.A. in Journalism on December 21, 1975. She entered her journalism career in 1975 as an investigative reporter for the Beverly Times in Beverly, Massachusetts. Later, she served as editor-in-chief for the York County Coast Star in York, Maine, as well as copy editor for the Boston Globe in Boston, Massachusetts and the Naples Daily News, in Naples, Florida.
She enjoyed a successful career that spanned nearly four decades. She experienced adventure and humanity through a journalist’s lens and fully immersed herself in her work. She earned a certificate for parachute jumping in 1985 while conducting research for her article about skydiving, and prior to retirement in 2009, she served as copy editor of the Miami Herald’s 2007 Pulitzer Prize winning article series, “House of Lies.”
She was a loyal Red Sox fan, and she was a passionate, devoted advocate of cat rescue. She dedicated her time to numerous animal welfare organizations for more than thirty years. Most recently, she joined forces with Okie Kitty Kisses Rescue of Choctaw, Oklahoma.
She is survived by her sister, Ruth Juhl, of Midwest City; two nieces, Marcia Babin and husband Brian Babin of Choctaw, and Michelle Brown of McLoud; seven great-nieces and nephews, Brenna Rahrig and husband Gil Rahrig of Edmond, Megan Morgan and husband Patrick Morgan of Oklahoma City, Shannon Fitzwilliam and partner D’vontae Stewart of Midwest City, Brandon Taylor of Oklahoma City, Courtney Agha and husband Jordan Agha of Midwest City, Caitlin Lehew and husband Jacob Lehew of Blanchard, and Lani Brown of McLoud; and fourteen great-great-nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 31, 2 p.m. at Bill Eisenhourr Funeral Home, 8805 NE 23rd St., Midwest City, and will stream on Zoom at 2 p.m. CST.
