Mona Mae Dutton, 94, went home to be with Jesus on June 13, 2012. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great, great grandmother. She served as the pianist/organist for Downtown Baptist Church for 74 years. She was very active in church activities and taught Vacation Bible School for many years. Mona was a devoted wife and mother and chose to stay home to raise her children. In addition to being a homemaker she worked part time at department stores throughout the Christmas season each year.
Mona and her husband, James Belmont Dutton, celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary on February 27, 2011. Jim always called Mona his “beautiful bride” and their unconditional love for each other was an inspiration to their entire family. Mona was a Godly woman who faithfully served her Lord, her husband and her family. In 1944 when Mona’s husband was drafted into the army, they bought a used camp trailer. Mona took her three year old son and faithfully followed her husband to army bases in Missouri, Kentucky and Mississippi so that she could keep her family together as long as possible before he was shipped overseas to fight the war.
Mona was an avid reader and an active member in a book club for many years. She constantly read books to grow in her Christian walk and to become a better wife and mother. Mona’s recliner was surrounded with clippings and articles that she would save and share with her family. She also wrote in a daily journal for over 70 years. Mona was a coupon clipper decades before it was even popular. Mona was a wonderful cook and was known to freeze practically any type of food imaginable to use at a later date. She made the best beans and cornbread in the world and always cooked enough to give leftovers to her grandchildren.
Mona was preceded in death by her husband, James Dutton and their son, Jimmy Dutton. She is survived by her son Robert Dutton and wife Judy and her daughter Joanne McCullah and husband Gene. Her grandchildren include Jim Dutton and wife Founda, John Dutton and wife LaDonna, Chris Cox and wife Karen, Tina Moore and husband Greg, Shayla Blomstrom, Stacy Camp and husband Jim, and Christa Pratt and husband Jason. Her great grandchildren include Kristi Howell, Alan Dutton, Victoria Dutton, Christopher Dutton, Scott Cox, Stephanie Austin, Alicia Cox, Kayla Cox, Paul Cox, Chloe Moore, Nealon Moore, Mycalyn Blomstrom, Melea Blomstrom, Haley Camp, Callie Camp, Gabriel Camp, Danae Pratt, Leacie Mae Pratt, Maddie McCullah, Mackenzie McCullah, Mikiah McCullah and Karlee McCullah. Her great great grandchildren include Mylee Howell, Kaylee Howell, Christopher Cox and Liberty Austin.
Mona’s death will leave a huge hole in our family and she will be greatly missed. We take comfort in knowing that she is in heaven with her Savior Jesus Christ and is reunited with many loved ones already, including her beloved husband and son.
