His three daughters, Cyndi, Shanna, and Lesley, were his pride and joy; he loved seeing them contribute to their families, workplaces, and communities. He had five happy grandchildren, Chloe, Audra, Rivers, Eli, and Eleanor. Mike won the love of three wonderful women during his life. He delighted in his beloved dogs.
He made a difference in the lives of untold numbers of students and players during his career as a math teacher, coach, and vice principal. He was a talented natural athlete who attended university on football scholarships and played softball, golf, and tennis throughout his life. He loved country music, whether playing electric bass or two-stepping the nights away.
While growing up in Seminole, OK, and Amarillo, TX, Mike never imagined that he would have the opportunity to travel extensively, but he visited China, Russia, Israel, and Europe, took a floatplane to view grizzly bears in Alaska, rode the trans-Canada train and the Orient Express, and circled the globe on a round-the-world plane ticket. He made friends around the world.
Following the 1999 tornado, Mike spearheaded rebuilding efforts as president of the Eastlake Patio Home Association. He was a long-time member of New Life Bible Church, and a committed volunteer to Meals on Wheels and the Will Rogers Airport information booth, as well as other community organizations.
Mike had all the things that make up a wonderful life, and he will be missed.
A memorial service will be held at New Life Bible Church, 3308 Broce Ct. in Norman, OK, at 1:00PM on Tuesday, December 26th, 2023.
