Mary Louise Borchers Davis got up to go to work on Wednesday, September 23, 2021, just as she had every other day but this was her final day of retirement. She went home to be with the Lord and was reunited with her husband, Jack and all of her furry friends.
Mary was born December 31, 1940 in Bigelow, Missouri to Frank and Opal (Dunn) Borchers. Both of her parents died early in Mary’s life and she had to be strong and take care of herself. And that she did. As a single mother with five year old, Mark, she left northwest Missouri and came to Oklahoma City. She was a hard worker, gritty and fearless. She had to play both roles of mother and father.
Mary had a successful business, Mary’s Maid Service, in Bethany for over 30 years, employing many people and she loved what she did.
She volunteered her time, working at Free to Live Animal Sanctuary for 10 years. She was on the board and served as President for 20 years. She did their auction every year without fail. To say Mary preferred animals to people was an understatement. Animals held a very special place in her heart and she left instructions that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Free to Live. She gave homes to strays, wounded and animals with medical problems over the years and she would give them whatever attention they needed.
Mary was especially close to her grandchildren when they were growing up and kept them when their parents went to work. Mary took them to work with her. What a bond they shared.
She met Jack Davis in 1988 and they married in 1990. He was the love of her life and they loved traveling together. Their love story was cut short when Jack passed away in 2010.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jack Davis, daughter Becky Looney and her brother Frank Borchers.
Mary is survived by her son Mark Ashworth and his wife Debbie of Oklahoma City; grandchildren Rhianna, Lisa, T.J., Shannon, Mary Helen, and Katy, 6 great grandchildren, special friends Connie, Annette and Mary and her fur baby, Muffin.
