Lynna Jean (Cooper) Whiteside unexpectedly went to be with the Lord on January 13, 2024. She was born October 17, 1956, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband, of 43 years, Tommy Whiteside.
After graduating from school, Lynna went to work in a restaurant with her high school sweetheart and soon-to-be husband, Tommy. Tommy and Lynna were inseparable – they came as a set and went everywhere together. Even working at the same places for most of their adult lives. In later years, she and Tommy worked for the State of Oklahoma from where they both retired.
Lynna loved people. She was an “Aunt” to all whom she encountered, and it didn’t matter if it was a stray cat or a person, she had food and shelter ready for anyone who needed it. She also loved her dogs, jigsaw puzzles, her church family, and especially her nieces and nephews. Lynna was the historian of the family and could tell you birthdays, anniversaries, and any number of details from even distant cousins’ lives. Lynna was the loving caretaker of her mother during the last few years of her mom’s life and missed her greatly after she died in 2020.
Lynna started going to church as a teenager, became a dedicated Christian, and eventually a member of Grace Church. Lynna was a true woman of God whose compassionate, caring love for others was a true example of God’s love for all to follow.
Lynna is also survived by her brothers, Harlan Cooper (Glenda); T.R. Cooper (Jeri Lynn), and her sister Karen Pennington (Rich); brothers-in-law, Junior Whiteside (Sharon); Mikel Whiteside (Sherry); sisters-in-law, Nancy Whiteside (Tom Turner); Sandra Hill (Scott); Sharon O’Hagen; Karen Hopkins (Bruce Wallingford). Lynna didn’t have children of her own but was an incredible aunt to 31 nieces and nephews, 38 great-nieces and great-nephews, and 1 great-great nephew.
Lynna was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Doris Cooper, and her parents-in-law, Raymond and Argie Whiteside.
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day – and not only to me but also to all who have longed for his appearing. – 2 Timothy 4:7,8
Services will be held on Saturday, January 20th at 10:00 am at Grace Church, 100 S Choctaw Road, Choctaw, Oklahoma. A graveside service to follow at Dale Cemetery, 33500 45th Street, McLoud, Oklahoma.
