Julia was born to Chester David Scharbrough and Maggie Golden on November 02, 1937, in Stanford, Kentucky. She was one of 13 children. She passed away January 3, 2022 at her home in Oklahoma. She was 84 years old.
Julia loved to go to yard sales and thrift stores. If she were driving down the road and passed a yard sale, she would turn around in the middle of the road to go back to a yard sale. She loved getting a good deal.
She would help anybody. It didn’t matter if she knew them or not. And her desire to help others is what led her to work many years at High Point being part of a team that tried to help people in their recovery.
She married Leo Mize and had six children with him. First born was Jackie, next was Donald, then Jeanetta, followed by Carol, Robin, and Leo Mize Jr.
She later married Frank Guthrie in Bedford, Indiana. After Julia’s kids were grown, Frank and Julia moved to Oklahoma near to where Frank’s mom and sister and brother resided. It was at this time that Julia was hired at High Point. She worked much of her life for High Point Home for boys rehabilitation in Oklahoma City. She was a cook and brought much comfort to the children who were in the program there. Her desire to help others led her to work at High Point for over 20 years.
She was a member of the church of Christ and volunteered at the Luther Community Service Center. She loved helping others and she worked hard to make sure people would have access to that help.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Chester David Scarborough and Maggie Golden; her husband, Frank Guthrie; her son, Donald Eugene Mize; and her son, Leo Mize Jr.
She is survived by her siblings, David Scarborough, Mary Cross, Jean Land and her husband Jim, Jim Scarborough and his wife Lianne; and her Children: Jackie Mize and his wife Bonnie, Jeanetta Zoellner, Carol Williams and her husband David, Robin Peregrine; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A funeral service for Julia will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at the Bill Eisenhour NE Funeral Home Chapel, 8805 NE 23rd Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73141 with interment to follow at the Luther Cemetery in Luther, OK.
