John served during WWII in the US Navy. Upon return he began a long and dedicated career with Southwestern Bell Telephone. He was admired for his leadership but even more for his honesty and integrity. He was a longtime active member and loyal servant of Quail Springs Baptist Church. John served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Building Committee Chair. He loved the time he spent helping at the Baptist Mission; countless volunteer hours with a joyful spirit.
John loved his family and was preceded in death by his wife, Lilyan, and son, Gary McDonald. He is survived by son, Robert McDonald and wife Leisa; daughters, Maryann McCrimmon, Shari Dowell and husband Larry; grandchildren Maggie Elder and husband Paul, Ashley Dowell, Austin and Matthew McCrimmon; great grandchildren Jocelyn and Eli Elder; brothers, Bob McDonald, Bill McDonald and wife Barbara; cousin Hortence (Hote) Hart.
A visitation will be held for John on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 from 12:00pm to 8:00pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home where family will greet guests from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at 11:30am at Quail Springs Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Quail Springs Baptist Church in John’s honor.
