Jimmie Lynn Disbrow

1938 - 2024

Dr. Jimmie Lynn Disbrow, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away December 22, 2024.

The son of James Alexander Disbrow and Lillie Smith Disbrow, Jimmie was born April 17, 1938, in Blackwell, Oklahoma.

After receiving a public education, Jimmie graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1960. After serving two years in the United States Navy, he attended Northwestern Oklahoma College, where he earned his Master’s degree in English Education and met his future wife, Laura Lou Reeves. They married on August 25, 1966. Daughter Marguerite Diane was born in 1970 and son Jeremy Charles was born in 1973.

Teaching was the greatest joy and skill in Jim's life. He taught English at Dodge City Junior College before earning his doctorate in English education in 1971 at Oklahoma State University Jimmie went on to teach East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma.

Jimmie became an ordained deacon in 1974. He earned his Master’s in Theology from the Seminary of the Southwest in 1984 and became a minister in Guthrie, Oklahoma. He continued to teach at Langston University as he served as minister for the church in that town. He later earned a Master’s of Gerontology 1988 from the University of Central Oklahoma.

Jimmie spent his free time reading, watching Oklahoma State sports and Oklahoma City Thunder basketball, and serving his God and his church. He also was a cherished member of the Third Order of St. Francis.

Jimmie is survived by his wife Laura, his daughter Marguerite, and his son Jeremy. Jimmie was preceded in death by his father, James; his mother, Lillie; and his sister, Barbara.

There will be a visitation on Thursday, December 26, 2024, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Funeral Directors, 6600 Broadway Ext., Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73116, with a wake happening at 6:00 PM. A service will happen on Friday, December 27, 2024, at 10:30 AM at Christ the King Catholic Church, 8005 Dorset Dr, Nichols Hills, OK 73120.
