Jane was predeceased by her parents, her six brothers and two sisters, and her husband Jack Forth. She is survived by her two daughters, Debbie Forth and Teri Forth.
Jane spent her early years on the farm, attending a nearby one-room schoolhouse that had only thirty-one students when she started. She remembered her mom baking homemade bread once a week in a huge pan her father had made and making half gallon jars of apple butter. Jane also remembered gathering eggs, tramping hay, and milking the cows.
Jane’s father was a farmer, but he also worked in the early oil drilling industry. Jane would often share that she was her daddy’s shadow. Her father was killed in 1944 in an oil well drilling accident. When Jane was 14 years old her mother sold the farm and took Jane, and her brother Wilbur (“Bud”) to live near an uncle in Oklahoma City.
Once in Oklahoma City, Jane attended Classen High School. On August 5, 1950, she married her sweetheart Jack (Forth).
Jane loved walking and was known by all in the neighborhood. Jane worked for State Farm. She loved to speak with customers about their insurance options in an age well before computerized searches. Those customers still ask about Jane today.
Jane was an active member at Greystone Presbyterian and later Covenant Presbyterian Churches, serving as a Deacon and an Elder. Jane also worked in the nursery; welcomed visitors and volunteered with Mobile Meals and The Urban Mission.
In her personal life, Jane was an excellent seamstress, enjoyed painting and did her own yard work until the age of 90. She was an avid Oklahoma Sooner fan. After Jack’s passing Jane was her daughters’ favorite traveling companion.
Our family will miss her kindness and her spirit very much. She was one of a kind!
Anyone wishing to donate in Jane’s memory may send a gift to The Urban Mission in Oklahoma City or Covenant Presbyterian Church for Mobile Meals.
