James Albert Peabody passed away on November 30, 2010 at the age of 81. He was born on May 14, 1929 and was lifelong Oklahoma City resident; Jim will be remembered by friends and family for his generous spirit, gregarious sense of humor, and strong work ethic. Jim’s life was marked by many notable achievements. A member of the Capitol Hill High School class of 1947, Jim was recognized with multiple awards including Valedictorian and Student Body President. While at the University of Oklahoma, Jim earned a law degree and was the Rhode Scholar representative. He was awarded Phi Beta Kappa and Order of the Coif and served as Editor of The Oklahoma Law Review. After he completed his law degree, he served his country as an officer in the Korean conflict. Jim’s loyalty and work ethic benefited colleagues and clients alike during his more than 50 years at Crowe Dunlevy. After serving on the executive committee, Jim retired in 1991 to Of Counsel status and served as the firm historian. Jim was a friend of Bill W. and one of the founders of the Western Club where he mentored and encouraged others. Jim’s marriage to Maurine Brown forever enriched his life. Their love and loyalty to each other had a profound effect on those around them. Preceded in death by wife, Maurine Peabody and brother, Curtis L. Peabody, Jr. Survived by sister, Mary Ann Wolfe, children, Ramona Cunningham, Melissa Brown, Barry Brown, and Belinda Ranstrom, and nephews Mark A. Wolfe and Christopher L. Wolfe. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 6, 2010, 2:00pm at the Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Chapel located at NW 63rd and Broadway Extension.
