James Henley Jr., age 70, passed away on Monday, September 25, 2023 in Midwest City, Oklahoma. James was born on June 13, 1953 in Holden, West Virginia to his parents James Henley Sr. and Ernestine (Burris) Henley.
James was a retired MSGT with the United States Air Force serving just shy of 20 years, his second retirement came from the Grand River Dam Authority as an Electrical Engineer. James enjoyed listening to music, playing cards with friends, fishing, playing the saxophone, watching sci-fi movies and tv shows, being a handyman, buying cars, and spending time with family and friends. James Henley Jr. proudly provided for his wife of 47 years, their 3 daughters and his 3 grandchildren.
James excelled in life and received many awards for his accomplishments; to include but not limit to this list of the decorations, medals, badges, citations and campaign ribbons he was awarded: MERITORIOUS SERVICE MEDAL, AF COMMENDATION MEDAL WITH 1/OLC, NCO PME GRADUATE RIBBON, AF LONGEVITY SERVICE AWARD RIBBON WITH 3/OLCS, NATIONAL DEFENSE SERVICE, AF OVERSEAS SHORT TOUR RIBBON WITH 1/OLC, AF TRAINING RIBBON, AF ORGANIZATIONAL EXCELLENCE AWARD, AF GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL WITH 4/OLCS.
His military education included: SENIOR NCO ACADEMY, JULY 1986, NCO ACADEMY, DECEMBER 1984, and the NCO ACADEMY, APRIL 1978.
James is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley “Tracey” Ann Henley whom he married on March 2, 1974; his father, James Henley, Sr.; his half-brother, Todd Fields; and half-brother, Gregory Fields.
James is survived by his mother, Ernestine Henley; daughter, Stacey Waggoner; daughter, Crystal Henley and partner Jesse Harris; daughter, Christina Henley; sister, Dr. Bernita Wright and husband Richard Wright Jr; brother, Darius Henley and wife Elenore; half-sister, Deidre Fields; grandchildren: Michaela Wolf and her husband Auston, Taylor Plum and her fiancé Edison Cardenas, Christopher Plum, Kris Wooten, and Jaylen Wooten; nephews: KJ Curry, Richard Wright III, Darius Henley II; niece, Roxanne Henley; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Memorial service: Saturday, October 14, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home, 8805 NE 23rd Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73141. Officiant: Bishop Dr. Bernita Wright DD.
