“Onie” was born to George and Gladys Harrison on September 2, 1942, in Pitcher, Oklahoma, one of 6 children. She grew up in Oklahoma City and was a graduate of Crooked Oak High School spending her adult years in Del City and Midwest City. She retired from Safeway Foods, where she worked many years in the butcher department. Ilona was so very proud of her boys, Robert Dean and Kevin Troy whom she loved very much and devoted her life. Ilona taught her boys to love camping and fishing just as she did; she could sit for hours with a line in the water without a bite! She loved gardening and her family will tell you she canned the best green beans ever! She always looked forward to hosting her family for Thanksgiving and Christmas, cooking and preparing for days ahead. One of her favorite pastimes was loving and caring for her grand and great-grandchildren who brought her more joy than anyone can imagine. Ilona’s love for children was unsurpassed. Her family was the most important thing in her life. Other than her 2-legged family, whom she loved dearly, nothing could replace her 4-legged babies, which she was convinced no one could care for and spoil like she did. Her cats, Muffy and Possum, shared her life for the better part of 20 years. Ilona was best known for teasing those she loved. Whether it was a verbal exchange or gifting a box of bricks and metal pipe wrapped as a weight set for Christmas, she was quite the jokester.
