Herbert Hoover Wilson of Midwest City, Okla. was born February 4, 1929, in Tamaha, Okla. to Francis M. Wilson and Cecil May (Hopkins) Wilson. He passed away on September 21, 2021, in Midwest City at the age of 92.
Herbert was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving over 21 years. He served in both Korea and Vietnam. His many years of military service took him across the world to places including England, France, Holland, Belgium, the Philippines and many more. He continued his federal service at Tinker Air Force Base before retiring in 1992.
Known by many as Hoover, Herb or Herbie, he was an avid gardener and woodworker, was always ready for a game of dominoes, and loved country and bluegrass music. He was a regular at the Midwest City Senior Center where he loved two stepping and was also part of a local travel club where he went on many fun adventures — all alongside his special friend, Dell Kirkham.
He always lit up a room with his smile, loved to tell jokes and brought lots of joy to those around him.
He is survived by four daughters, Gerry Gulbranson of Midwest City, Kathy Hampton of Harrah, Okla., Debby Roberts of Midwest City and Barbra Wilson of Midwest City; six grandchildren, Brianne Slifka, Jeremy Gulbranson, Miranda Wilson, Geoffrey Hampton, Naomi Roberts and Gennifer Hampton; three great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, friends and church family.
Herbert was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Wilson; four brothers, Boyd, Elmer, Leroy and Francis Wilson; three sisters, Emma Miller, Dona Hodges and Lottie Smith; and his parents.
