George Wilder Woodyard of Choctaw, Oklahoma passed away surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, November 10. George was born on August 6, 1934, in Carson, AL to the late George Frank and Stella (Conerly) Woodyard.
After losing his mother at a young age, his father married Bertie Mae Powell. He graduated from Leroy High School in 1954. He joined the U.S. Marine Corp shortly after graduation and earned the rank of Sergeant before being honorably discharged in 1957. He attended the University of Alabama.
He married the love of his life, Annette Coxwell on November 7, 1959. In 1969, while working for the U.S. Air Force in a civil service role the family was transferred first to Long Beach, Mississippi then a year later to Oklahoma. George was an Electronics Engineer at Tinker Air Force Base. George was a hard-working man and had many travels around the world while working for the U.S. Air Force.
When not at work George enjoyed working in his vegetable garden, hunting, fishing, and scouting out local auctions, always looking for a good deal. George was also a licensed private pilot. George and Annette were faithful members of First Baptist Church, Choctaw. George was a deacon at the church for 50 years.
George was preceded in death by his parents, his beautiful bride, Annette, his loving sisters, Louise Ward, Frankie Havard, Maggie Lou Woodyard, Mary Guy, and Juanita Catrett, his brother Tarzan Conerly, and his wonderful beloved granddaughter, Mary Woodyard. George is survived by his son, George W. Woodyard, Jr. and wife Sandi, his daughters Stella Reyna and husband Fred, Sheila McGinley, and Nancy Bussell and husband Mike, sisters Catherine Trott and Flora Lee Pettis, and brother Joe Woodyard.
George is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Trey and Neal Reyna, Ann Marie, Matthew and his wife Morgan, and Mark McGinley, Westley Woodyard and his wife Kait, Brandon Woodyard, Mason, Molly and Nolan Bussell and four great grandchildren, Wren, Ebby, and Rhodes Woodyard, and Cosette Reyna, numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Eisenhour Funeral Home Northeast, 8805 NE 23rd Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73141. A funeral service will occur Thursday, November 14, 2024, at 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church, 2700 Main Street. Choctaw, OK 73020. A burial will occur at Elmwood Cemetery, 1800 N. Choctaw Rd., Choctaw, OK 73020.
