He was born in Spokane, WA on July 20, 1950. George graduated from US Air Force Academy, CO with BS in Engineering Management in 1972. After serving as a Navigator for the US Air Force for about 7 years, he started to pursue his medical career. He completed further undergraduate education part time to prepare for a Medical Doctor degree at the Medical College of WI and graduated in 1988. By 1992, he completed his 4 years of residency in Anesthesiology.
Dr. George Dawson worked as an anesthesiologist at Tinker Air Force Base Hospital for 3 years immediately after residency. He concurrently worked at Baptist Medical Center (Integris) from 1993-2003. After Honorable Discharge from the Air Force as a Major in July 1995, Dr. Dawson was hired by Presbyterian Hospital and worked until 1995. He was subsequently hired by the Surgery Center of Midwest City as Medical Director and anesthesia provider until they closed in Feb. 2018. Concurrently, he founded the Sooner Pain Clinic of Del City beginning in Nov. 2013 and was sole practitioner until his passing. In addition, he was a part-time anesthesiologist at Summit Medical Center from 2018 to present.
George was devoted to the Lord, his family, and his country. He had a passion for woodworking projects, grilling, playing racket sports, watching sports and movies with lots of family and anything John Deere. He loved music, played guitar, banjo, and mandolin from time to time. He built guitars and mostly loved to help people in any way he could – prayers, medically, with tractor work, and liked to humor them.
He was married to Barbara A Dawson on August 16, 1986. They moved to Oklahoma City to begin planting their roots. George was survived by his wife, Barbara, and their children: Evan (Amber), Kyle, Raquel, Mary, Christian, Makayla, and Riley Dawson and former guardian children: Chloe, Laura, and Brittany (deceased), and honorary father to Elliott. He is Grandfather to Ashur, Arilynd, Zaeli (Evan’s), Oliver, Kai, Cecilia, Lucas (Raquel), Leo (Mary), Sophia (Makayla). He is survived by one sister, Carol Dawson. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Gloria and George Dawson, and his brother, John Dawson.
A visitation for George will be held Friday, September 16, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 13313 North Kelley Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73131. A funeral service will occur Monday, September 19, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Life Church Edmond, 4600 E 2nd St, Edmond, OK 73034.
