Fred Martin Crump passed after battling cancer since September 2020. He was born to Vernon Martin and Joyce Irene (McGrew) Crump in Denver, CO. He was raised in Denver along with his three siblings, being the second oldest. He played football in Junior High School and excelled in Wrestling and Gymnastics at Ranum High School. He left Colorado after his Junior year and moved to Los Angeles to start a new adventure. He finished his High School education, graduating in 1973 from Rosemead High School as Valedictorian.
In 1974 he joined IBM, which took him around the world in his 31-year career with them. Starting out in Los Angeles, California, then transferring to Sterling Forest, New York, where his children were born, pursuing Information Technology positions. A few years later IBM transferred him back to Colorado to the Boulder corporate offices. In March 1991 he travelled to Oklahoma City, OK, for business where he met his current wife Peggy and they married July 5th. IBM sent them to Bangkok, Thailand that November for business, where Fred and his wife made many fun memories during those 6 months, including their very first ocean SCUBA diving adventures. After retiring from IBM in 2005 Fred’s career included time spent with Chickasaw Nation Industries, Devon Energy and the last 13+ years with Oklahoma Student Loan Authority.
In 2000 Fred had the chance to pursue his dream of going to college. He attended Oklahoma City University (OCU) and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business in 2001 and his Master’s Degree in IT in 2003, all the while working full-time at IBM. After graduating he was invited to teach Management, Marketing, and IT as an Adjunct Professor at OCU until 2008, which he enjoyed immensely.
Growing up, Fred enjoyed camping and fishing with his family and friends and occasional deer hunting. He was in a bowling league with his father for many years and also enjoyed golfing. His drives not always straight but was great at putting. While living in Colorado he was able to obtain Bronco season football tickets and went to all the home games for years, still owning the rights with family being able to use these seats. He absolutely loves Notre Dame and the Fighting Irish Football Team. Because of his passion for ND, he was given an honorary admittance into the Notre Dame Club even though he never attended classes there. He went to several home field games, which were a magical time for him. His next sports love was SCUBA diving, which Peggy got him involved with. Along with those first Thailand dives they spent many hours underwater at Tenkiller Lake in Eastern, OK, Cayman Brac, and their next favorite place after Thailand was diving Bonaire.
In 2010 Fred joined St Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, becoming an Usher, Lector, Eucharistic Minister, Parish Council Chairperson and a 2nd year Confirmation Class Minister. In 2010 Fred became a member of the Knights of Columbus, which included becoming a 4th, Degree Knight. During the next several years he held various Oklahoma City assembly positions, including the Grand Knight, Faithful Navigator, Oklahoma District Master for 4 years, which ended in September 2020, the same month he was diagnosed with cancer and Faithful Admiral until 2021.
Fred is survived by his wife Peggy, his daughter Rebecca Pierce (Brad), granddaughters Madeleine, Jordan and Kaitlyn, his son Keith Martinez (Elaine), grandsons Corie and Dominic.
