It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ed McVay on October 11, 2024. However, it is with great joy and comfort that we can announce Ed has made his journey home to be with his Lord and Savior.
Edmund “Ed” Loren McVay was born on July 12, 1953, in Houston, Texas. He grew up in Houston before moving to Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1965. While in Tulsa, Ed was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, earning the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated from Memorial High School in Tulsa and attended college at Northeastern State University where he met the love of his life and beloved wife, Dawn McVay, of 50 years. Upon graduation, he and Dawn made their home wherever his employment in the oil industry took them. In 1979 Ed accepted an employment position as an accountant with Phillips 66. He later transferred over to Phillips 66 Marketing Department, and ultimately found himself working with Phillips 66 Aviation. He absolutely loved to fly and was grateful to incorporate his passion for flying with his career. Ed retired from Phillips 66 in 2013 after 35 years with the company.
Ed was never one to lack hobbies or something to do. While in school in Tulsa, he was a member of the Young Tulsans Marching Band in which he played tenor saxophone. He maintained his love for music throughout his life and upon retirement, Ed decided to take up playing the banjo, spending countless hours learning and honing his craft. He also loved wood-working and making whatever may have been thrown his direction. He was an avid cycler and participated in several tours. He loved scuba diving, playing golf, and took great interest in any and all activities in which his children or grandchildren participated. By far, Ed’s favorite hobby was fly fishing. The man would fish from sun up to sun down, and raring to go again the following morning. Ed and Dawn enjoyed traveling in their motor home, and traveled all over the United States visiting national parks. Thankfully, they were able to make one last trip back to Yellowstone National Park last summer, this time with all of their children and grandchildren in tow.
Ed had the most amazing faith in the Lord our God, and was truly a great example when it came to embracing the word of God and implementing the same into his life. He was an amazing example to all by and through his faith.
Ed is survived by his wife, Dawn McVay of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; daughter Kimberly Hagan, son-in-law Chase Hagan, grandchildren Carter and Avery Hagan of Edmond, Oklahoma; daughter Sara Worten, son-in-law Tyler Worten, grandchildren Anna and Tucker Worten of Edmond, Oklahoma; his brother Mark McVay and sister-in-law Florence Ann McVay of Lubbock Texas; his nieces Stephanie Jones and her husband Josh Jones of Tyler Texas; and Lauren Sweeney, her husband Brandon Sweeney, and grandnephews Caleb and Titus Sweeney of Phoenix, Arizona. Ed is preceded in death by his parents Robert “Bob” and Lorena McVay of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
