Earl Ray Hunter was born August 8, 1943, in Sulphur, Oklahoma to Jess and Zora Hunter. He went to be with his Lord in Heaven on Sunday, October 13 ,2024 at the age of 81. The family will receive visitors Thursday, October 17, 2024 from 4:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m. at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Funeral Home in Oklahoma City. Funeral services are 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 18, 2024 at Crossings Community Church Chapel in Oklahoma City. A graveside service will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Earl graduated from Sulphur High School in 1961. He attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, OK, where he earned degrees in Accounting and Economics with a minor in Music. Earl was the first person from his family to graduate college. He began his career with Marathon Oil in Tulsa, OK, as an Accountant. In 1965, he moved to Duncan, OK, to go to work for Halliburton where he served in a variety of roles including Accountant Manager, Real Estate Manager and Manager of Global Relocation and Operations. He served Halliburton for 42 years before retiring in 2008.
It was in Duncan, where he met and married Michelle Moss on February 7,1976. They met at the Stephens County courthouse when he served on jury duty of a criminal trial, and she worked for the District Attorney. He loved to tell people that “the Defendant was acquitted, and he got the life sentence!” During their 48 years of marriage, they enjoyed being active in First Baptist Church Duncan where he enjoyed singing in the choir, as well as solos, and in quartets. Earl and Michelle were teachers for young couple’s classes for many years.
Earl loved going to Arbuckle Lake where he was an avid water skier until the age of 78. He enjoyed traveling with Michelle and they enjoyed trips to Hawaii, beaches of Mexico, and all over the United States. Together they raised their son: Michael.
Upon retirement, they moved to Oklahoma City where Earl was an active member of the Crossings Community Church choir, enjoyed Bible Study dinner club with friends, and weekly men’s noon Bible Study. Earl was proud to be “Grandad” to his Granddaughters Halle and Cameron Hunter. His Granddaughters were one of the great joys of his life.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jess Hunter Jr., half- brother Glen Hunter, and half-sister Lois Hunter. Surviving Family includes his Wife of 48 years, Michelle; Son: Michael Hunter of Edmond, OK, 2 Granddaughters: Halle and Cameron Hunter of Edmond, OK, Sisters: Pat Parker (John), Evelyn McBee, Eva Smith, and Susie Beaver (Harold). Brother: Jerry Hunter. Sister In Law: Monica and Tom McCasland III, Brother In Law: Mike(Beverly) Moss.
Other Surviving Family includes dozens of nieces, and nephews who were all equally his favorite!
Earl will be remembered as a loving Husband, Father, Granddad, Brother, and Uncle. He was loved by all who knew him.
