Don Lee Welchel

Don Lee Welchel, age 77, passed away on Monday, August 14, 2023 in Oklahoma City, OK. Don was born on June 21, 1946 in Chickasha, OK to his parents Chattie Houston Welchel & Iva Isabella (Sumner) Welchel.

Don was the owner/operator of Welchel Roofing Company for 42 years. When Don wasn't working his favorite past times were playing golf, pool, darts, fishing, horseshoes, the Golden Tee video game, and spending time with his family and friends. Don also played softball, coached little league and soccer, and went bowling. Don loved spending his summers at the lake pulling kids on skis. One of Don's mottos was that "No roof is too tough, too big, or too far!"

Don was drafted and served honorably in the United States Army. He was a devout Christian and attended the Country Estates Baptist Church in Midwest City. He was also a member of the American Legion and the VFW.

Don is preceded in death by his infant son, Timothy; parents, Houston & Iva; brother, Jurl; sisters, Christine & Nadine (infant); brother-in-law, Jerry Perkins; nephew, Jimmy; and his nieces, Kim & Stephanie.

He is survived by his spouse, Lynn (Crabb) Welchel whom he married on June 3, 2001; daughter, Leah Dawn (Welchel) Riley and husband Dan; son, Jason Don Welchel and wife Elisha; stepson, Ryan Nees; stepdaughter, Christy Luhman; his first wife, Wendy Sue Steed who is the mother of his children; brother, Dale Welchel and wife Lola; sister, Nancy O'Hagan and husband Mike; brother, Dennis Welchel and wife Diane; sister-in-law, Vicki; as well as his grandchildren: Taylor, Derri, Kelsey, Cooper, Clayton, and Kolton.

A visitation for Don will be held Wednesday, August 16, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home, 8805 NE 23rd Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73141. A funeral service will occur Thursday, August 17, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Country Estates Baptist Church, 1000 S. Midwest Blvd., Oklahoma City, OK 73110.
