She was born in Enid, Oklahoma on September 6th, 1947 and would go on to graduate from Midwest City High School. Following high school she furthered her education at the University of Central Oklahoma where she would receive her Bachelor of Arts degree. Connie would later meet and marry a man with two young children that she came to consider her own, and the couple also had one daughter. During her career she worked for the Metropolitan Auto Dealers Association and as an editor, but the energy investment that made her the happiest was her role as a parent and later, as a grandparent.
Connie had a servant’s heart and greatly enjoyed contributing to church initiatives as well as charities. She was an active member of Acts 2 United Methodist Church of Edmond. As a follower of Christ, she authentically walked His path of humility and compassion. If someone needed prayer, she stopped everything and prayed with them no matter the time or location. Connie was one of those rare folks who made both friends and strangers alike feel seen, heard, and loved. If she could help someone who needed help, she did.
She was known for her classy kindness and her zany personal flourishes. Her vocabulary was encyclopedic. She never stopped learning. She never stopped being willing to see life from a new perspective. She cracked her grandkids up every time they saw her, and vice versa. She knew her vulnerabilities and regrets only made her stronger, so she practiced radical honesty at every opportunity she could. She was brave and she was lonely and she was expansive and she was emotion incarnate. She was loyal despite the cost. She didn't quit life; she fought for her own survival and that of many others, and won. She remains the gold standard of imperfectly beautiful humanity, and an inspiration for many who knew her.
She is survived by her daughters, Helen Kotson & Tobie Cunningham; Son, David Blakney; Grandchildren, Kevin Coughlan, Brian Coughlan, Dash Cunningham, Piper Anderson, and Tucker Anderson; Sisters, Deborah Allison, Pamela Brown, and Robin Smith.
A memorial service will be held for Connie at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, November 28th, 2023 at Acts II United Methodist Church of Edmond.
Connie’s family would like to invite all attendees of the memorial service on Tuesday to wear blue in her memory.
