Charles Leroy King, 93, died Feb. 11, 2014. He was born Dec. 4, 1920 in Chickasha, OK. He graduated from Chickasha High School, served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as an instructor of radio operators. While stationed in Chicago and visiting Madison, WI, he met and later married Elaine Virginia Olson. They lived for 59 years in Oklahoma City and were married for 69 years. He loved gardening and camping and for many years he was an avid amateur ham radio operator (call letters W5KWK), and a well-regarded and enthusiastic Boy Scout leader who was proud to have guided his two sons among several others to Eagle Scout badges. Charles and Elaine were longtime members of the Putnam City Methodist Church, where they volunteered for many of the church's community programs and where Charles was a mainstay in a popular outreach program in which he designed and handcrafted greeting cards that were delivered weekly to the church's shut-ins, elderly, hospitalized and families of deceased members. Charles and Elaine lived at the Legacy Heights Retirement Center in Van Buren, Ark. He is survived by his wife, Elaine; his children: David and wife Virginia, of Van Buren; Dennis and wife Suzan, of New York City; grandchildren Christopher King, and Matthew, Joshua and Gracie King; brother Ray King and wife Wanda, of Mannford, and sister Becky Bailey and husband Dave, of Oklahoma City.
