Bill Joe Chaney, 87, of Moore passed peacefully from this life on January 2, 2020 with his loving family by his side. Services have been entrusted to the care of Advantage Funeral & Cremation and a celebration of Bill’s life will be held at 11am on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at Resthaven Memory Gardens. Public visitation will be held at the Advantage Funeral Service at 7720 S. Penn in OKC from 4-8pm on Monday, January 6th.
Bill was born an April 6, 1932 in OKC to Lonnie and Verda Jo (Medley) Chaney. He grew up in OKC and graduated from Capitol Hill High School where he enlisted in the Naval Reserves. On Christmas Eve in 1952 he met the love of his life, Barbara Dittmeyer on a blind date and in 1953, Bill made Barbara his bride. They spent 66 wonderful years together and made many wonderful memories. Bill chose a career in the printing industry and spent 20+ years as a print shop supervisor for the City of Oklahoma City before retiring in the early 1990’s.
Bill was a kind and generous man who enjoyed spending time with his family skiing and fishing near their home on Lake Eufaula. He also loved to travel, go hunting, and watch baseball. Bill was ornery and enjoyed telling or listening to a good story. Bill left an unmistakable mark on the lives of those around him and he will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Bill Chaney was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters: Aletha Briney, Bonnie Shropshire, and Katie Bench. He is survived by his wife Barbara Chaney; two children: Michael Chaney and wife Olivia and Rita Baker and husband Ronnie; four grandchildren: Travis Baker, Chance Baker, William Chaney, and Esther Hodge; 10 great grandchildren: David, Sarah, Gabby, Aubrey, Hayden, Beau, Dylan, Ezra, Elizabeth, and Joshua; he is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other beloved family members.
