Betty Jane Martin Draper was born August 13, 1922, in Guthrie, OK and left this world on Thursday, August 1, 2013, in Edmond, OK. She was preceded in death by her parents, Newell and Martha Si-Opha Ard Miller, her brother Bob Miller, daughter, Sherri and grandson, Phillip Martin. Betty was raised in southern Logan County, alongside Old 77 where her father ran a garage and service station. Betty’s mother died when she was very young and Betty had to assume a lot of the responsibility of raising her younger sisters and brother. She attended Charter Oak School on old route 77.
During World War II, she worked in Britton and that is where she met her husband, Dale. They married in December of 1942. They raised their children in the area of Lake Arcadia where Betty had a successful Avon business. To this union was born Richard, Larry and Sherri. After Mr. Martin became disabled, Betty had to assume a bigger financial role in the family and started working full time, including her job with OCC in their mail room. Mr. Martin died in 1991, just a month shy of their 50th wedding anniversary. Several years later in 1995, she married Edwin Draper. She loved selling Avon, cooking and raising flowers, especially her irises. When her sons were in school she helped with the various FFA activities in Edmond.
Her final few years, she lived at Tealridge retirement community. She was a long time member of Memorial Road Church of Christ. Betty is survived by sons, Richard and wife of Luther; Larry and wife Kathy of Enid, grandsons, Chris and wife Tammy, Michael and wife Christy and Phillp’s wife Shaunna and eight great grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters, Helon Delling; Reta Roller and Martha Atchley and their families and her second husband, Edwin Draper. She will be burial at Memorial Park Cemetery by her first husband, Dale.
Betty’s family would like to thank the caregivers at the Memory Care Unit at Tealridge and Centenial Hospice for their care during these years.
