Born in Chanute, Kansas, Betty was the only child of Frank F. and Ethel F. Young. She graduated from Chanute High School, attended Stephens College and graduated from Kansas University in 1942. She was a lifetime member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.
In 1943 she married 2nd Lt. O.D. Butcher, Jr. before he shipped out for active duty in the South Pacific. They were parents of four children. In 1965 Betty married the Rev. Boyd C. Latimer.
Betty was a kind and soft-spoken person her entire life which led to her many successes as either an employee or owner of several successful businesses over her lifetime. She was very proud of the fact that the plumbing and heating contract accepted for the building of the United States Air Force Academy was the one she had prepared. She worked hard all her life and her independence, values and work ethic are the same qualities she passed along to each of her four children by her example.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents and both her husbands. She is survived by her children, Rebecca (Don) Cassel, Frank D. Butcher, Garry L. (Jennifer) Butcher and Bruce J. (Vicki) Butcher, as well as her nine grandchildren and five Great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank for their faithful and tender care the clergy of All Soul’s Episcopal Church, Sylvia Pardue, her Stephen Minister, Good Shepherd Hospice and the staff at the Fountains of Canterbury, especially Jackie Norman-Callaghan. We are forever grateful.
A Memorial Service and interment of ashes will be in the Chapel of St. Mary at All Soul’s Church on September 5 2014 at 1:30 pm. A reception will follow in the church’s parish hall. Arrangements under the direction of Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Funeral Directors, Oklahoma City, OK.
