Bert Billington Beals of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma passed away November 27, 2016 at the age of 84. He was born on February 16, 1932 in Oklahoma City as the eldest of three sons to Gladys and Bert Beals Jr.
After graduating from Northeast High School in 1950, Bill attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he completed both his Bachelors and Masters Degree in Chemical Engineering in 1955.
While attending M.I.T. he joined the ROTC and upon graduating moved back to Oklahoma City and was stationed at Tinker Air Force Base as a Lieutenant for three years.
Upon completing his Air Force obligation, Bill joined his father and worked for the family’s lumber business – Billington Lumber. He also followed his father and grandfather’s interest in the Masonic Society as an active member for many years.
Bill had a long and successful career in commercial real estate, investments and mortgage lending. When he wasn’t busy working he loved to go fishing, which he had enjoyed since youth from summers spent at the family cabin in Colorado.
Bill met Gail Kendall Plath, quite literally, on a piano bench and they eventually married on February 23, 1974. They shared a constant love for music and enjoyed travelling abroad to France, Italy, the Mediterranean, England and Scotland.
Bill and Gail were members of the English Speaking Union and long time members of All Souls Episcopal Church. They were both avid O.U fans, past members of the O.U. Presidents Associates and attended games every season until it became too much of a challenge.
Bill enjoyed tutoring students in Math, Science and music. He was an accomplished pianist, loved classical music as well as the ragtime tunes of Scott Joplin. He had an inquisitive mind, an extensive library and would often be found reading the latest issues of Scientific American and M.I.T. Technology Review.
Bill was especially proud of his family and family heritage which included his great grandfather Billington who fought in the Civil War.
He is survived by his wife Gail, his brother James Anthony Beals; 2 daughters; Barbra (John) Restorick and Laurie Claus; 4 grandchildren; Rachel Restorick, Conner Restorick, Kendall Claus and Lachlan Claus.
