Bernard Anderson, 72, of OKC passed from this life on January 3, 2020 with his loving family by his side. Services have been trusted to the care of Advantage Funeral Service and a celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at 2pm at Advantage located at 7720 S. Penn in S. OKC.
Bernard was born on December 20, 1948 in Okmulgee, OK to Theola Rivers. He graduated from Dunbar Public Schools and following graduation he enlisted in the US Army. He spent 4 years honorably serving his country, including over a year in Korea. Upon his discharge, Bernard enrolled at UCO where he earned a Master’s of Art Degree. Bernard spent many years working for Western Electric and taught Sunday school at his church.
He would go on to meet and marry his forever love, Cecilia Anderson and to this union a son was born, Ryan Anderson, who Bernard referred to as “Sport.” He spent several years working as a truancy officer for OKC Public Schools. Mr. Anderson spent 25 years working for the General Motors Plant in OKC before retiring. Bernard was a loving husband, a protective father, a caring brother, a proud grandfather and a trusted friend who will be missed by all who knew him.
Bernard was preceded in death by his mother Theola Rivers; brother Leonard Ray Powdrill Sr (Noonie); sister Rosa Maria Jone (Poochie); sister Marilyn Ann Simpkins; a sister James Etta Williams; aunts Bernice Syrus-Davis (Nanny) and Kity Mae Williams; as well as the love of his life Cecilia Ann Anderson. He is survived by his son Ryan Bernard Anderson and wife Sonya of OKC; daughters Nomita Grana and Tamra Turner; granddaughters: Tempest Marris, Eugenee’ Turner, and Genesse Turner, and Nevaeh Yvonne Anderson.
