A graveside service for Ruth Bailey Hunter, age 96, of Ogdensburg will be held at the convenience of the family at Ogdensburgh Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Ruth passed away after a brief illness at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital on June 21, 2018.
Surviving are her two nieces, Lynn Whittier (her husband, Sarge, died January 2011) of Canton and Michele Rose and her husband, Carl, of Waddington; great-nieces & nephews, Andrew Whittier and his wife, Kristen, of Canton, Peter Whittier and his wife, Catherine, of Charlottesville, VA, Rebecca Rose-Hitchins and her husband, Jahn, of Parishville, Matthew Rose and his wife, Stephanie, of Waddington and Carrie Tyo and her husband, Jeffrey, of Massena; along with several great-great nieces and nephews. Ruth was predeceased by a brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Clara Bailey, in 1999 and 2006 respectively, and a great-nephew, Daniel Rose in 2002.
Ruth was born on July 27, 1921, in Ogdensburg NY, a daughter of the late Loren O. & Hazel A. (Algie) Bailey. She graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1939, and continued her education at Syracuse University where she graduated in 1943 with a Bachelor’s degree. She later resumed her education and earned a Master’s degree in 1955 from St. Lawrence University.
Ruth was a member of NYS Retired Teachers Association and a member of the First Church of Christian Science in Potsdam. She enjoyed reading, history, travelling, knitting, cooking and spending time with her family.
