Richard C. Watson

Funeral Services for Richard C. Watson, age 88 of Hammond will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday April 13, 2024 at the Hammond Presbyterian Church where Pastor Shea Zellweger will offer comforting words. Prior to the service, friends and family will be having calling hours also at the church from 10:00am until the time of the service. Interment will follow at Cedar Cemetery in Black Lake. Mr. Watson peacefully passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2024.

Richard preceded in death by his devoted wife of 38 years, Sherry A. Watson, and his sister, Alfa Carr. He is survived by his brothers-in-laws, John “Jack” (Karen) Adam of Connecticut, Spencer (Christine) Adam of Rochester, NY, and Gary Carr of Florida; sisters-in-laws, Paula Tardibone of Auburn, NY, and Janet Adam of Webster, NY; many beloved nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by dear friends Carol and Gary Davis, as well as his beloved cat Sophia.

Mr. Watson was born on June 1, 1935, in Hammond, NY, to the late Eddy Watson and Harriet Schermerhorn. He graduated from Hammond Central School and dedicated himself to farming until 1968. Richard then relocated to Newark, NY, where he served as a programmer for Sarah Coventry Jewelry for 16 years. Following this, he worked as a stock clerk at P&C Food in Seneca Falls, NY, for 7 years before returning to Hammond. In his later years, Richard found joy in volunteering at Bella Brooke Winery.

On October 8, 1976, Richard married the love of his life, Sherry Adam, in Seneca Falls, NY. He took pleasure in spending time with friends at the winery and nurturing his passion for gardening. Richard was an active member of various organizations including the Masonic Lodge #861, Hammond Museum, Hammond Presbyterian Church, the St. Lawrence County Pomona Grange, State Grange, and the Kendrew Grange.
