A Funeral Mass for James A. Ramie, age 77 of Ogdensburg, will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday (Jan 9, 2018) at Notre Dame Church with Rev. Joseph Morgan officiating. Entombment will follow at Foxwood Memorial Park.
Calling hours will be held on Monday (Jan 8th) from 1:00-3:00pm & 6:00-8:00pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home. Mr. Ramie passed away on Thursday (Jan 4, 2018) at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
Surviving are three daughters Michele Ramie & her companion Michael Kitts Sr. of Antwerp, Deneen “Dee” (Victor) Pharoah of Canton and Melissa Chevrier of Ogdensburg; grandchildren Mr. Christopher (Karen) Kossow, James Gibson, Brian Duprey Jr., Matthew Blackmer, Mr. Jason (Sarah) Johnston, Cody Blackmer, Brent Chevrier & his companion Megan Morrison, Megan Chevrier & her fiancée Todd Demers; great-grandchildren Kiera Rae Duprey, Ramie Sarah-Ann Blackmer, Rylee Deneen Johnston, Brian James Duprey, Liam Christopher Kossow, Ella Rose Rafferty, Alice James Kossow, Easton Michael Demers; Devyn Johnston, Dylan Johnston & Desiree Johnston; sister-in-law Kay Ramie, Shirley Ramie, Janice Scott and Rhonda Wells; brother-in-laws Stuart Woodside Sr. & Robert Wells along with many nieces, nephews & cousins.
Jim was predeceased by his first wife Judith Ann Wells in 1984; his second wife Shirley (David) LaRock in 2011; siblings Charles Ramie, Francis Ramie, Carole Woodside, Barbara Womack, Richard Ramie & Gerald Ramie and step son Joseph LaRock in 2014.
He was born on February 27, 1940 in Ogdensburg NY, a son of the late George M. & Velma A. (Pinard) Ramie. He graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in June of 1957 and continued education through classes at Omega and American Bankers Association. He later married Judith A. Wells on June 2, 1962 at Notre Dame Church. After her death her later found love and was remarried on July 1, 1988 to Shirley (David) LaRock.
During his career he was employed at Armour & Company from 1957 – 1968, Ogdensburg Trust Co. from 1968 to 1993. Throughout the years, the banks were renamed to Oneida National Bank, Norstar Bank, Fleet-Norstar Bank, Fleet Bank and later Bank of America. He held bank positions of loan officer, assistant treasurer, treasurer and assistant vice-president when he retired in 1993.
He was an active member of Notre Dame Church where he served on the parish council and later as council president and a Eucharist Minister. He was also the Chairman of the K of C Bingo Committee, former treasurer of the American Red Cross, former president of the West Side PTA, and served on the grievance board of Appeals for the City of Ogdensburg. He and Shirley relocated to Barefoot Bay, FL in 1993, where he attended the St. Sebastian Catholic Church, and also served as a Eucharist Minister and an active volunteer for the church breakfasts. He was also a member of the Lord’s Table soup kitchen and treasurer of the organization, a member of the British Heritage Club also serving as treasurer, a member of the K of C and the Loyal Order of the Moose in Sebastian, FL. In 2004 the couple moved to Lake in the Woods, Melbourne, FL where he was a member of Our Lake of Grace Catholic Church in Palm Bay, FL and served as minister of hospitality, a member of the social committee, Vice President of the social committee and bingo chairman all at the Lake in the Woods. In June of 2011 he moved back to Ogdensburg resuming his duties as Notre Dame Parishioner, Eucharistic Minister and the Knights of Columbus Treasurer.
Jim enjoyed going to the casino, working bingo at the K of C, socializing with others, church involvement and spending time with family.
