Funeral services for Eugene A. Jones, age 82 of Potsdam and formerly of Lisbon, will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday (Jan 17, 2018) at the First Congregational Church (White Church) in Lisbon with Rev. Andrea Mericle officiating. Burial will be in the spring at White Church Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday (Jan 16th) from 2:00-4:00pm & 6:00-8:00pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home. A Masonic Ritual will be performed at the funeral home at 7:45pm during calling hours. Mr. Jones passed away on Thursday (Jan 11, 2018) at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center surrounded by his wife and friends.
Surviving is his wife Mary Jones of Potsdam; nephews Brian Jones & his wife Amie of San Jose, CA; a niece Lori Pidaiparphi & her husband Ram; a sister-in-law Pat Jones of Los Gatos, CA along with cousins and many friends.
He was predeceased by his brother Robert Jones and a nephew Edwin Jones.
Gene was born on December 17, 1935 in Ogdensburg NY, a son of the late Edwin & Esther (Lazarus) Jones. He graduated from Lisbon High School in 1953 and later married Dorla Thompson in Sept of 1962. The couple’s marriage later ended. On Sept 4, 2009 he again was married to Mary Gilson at the St. Lawrence County Power & Equipment Museum in Madrid.
In 1964, he began his long career with the NYS Department of Transportation as a Highway Equipment Operator. He later retired in 1991 after 27 years of dedicated service.
Gene was an active member in several organizations to include the Lisbon Volunteer Fire Dept, Lisbon Library Board, Quebec Brook Hunting Club, Joe Indian Land Holders Assn, St. Lawrence Gas & Steam Engine Assn, Seaway Valley Senior Citizens Club, White Church Cemetery Assn, Waddington Lodge #393 Free & Accepted Masons, Scottish Rite Media Temple Shrine in Watertown, NRA, The Black Lake Fish & Game Club, NYS Trappers Assn, The Amber Lodge in Parishville, Parishville Volunteer Fire Dept, Weller Mountain Fish & Game Club, State Wide Senior Action Council, Diamond Sportsman Club, Jester’s and a founding member and contributor of the Lisbon Depot Museum.
Gene enjoyed eating out, socializing, hunting, fishing, picnics, going for rides, watching plays, supporting the community, feeding the deer, 4-wheeling, riding his motor cycle, snowmobiling, and his party boat.
