Eleanore “Connie” F. Putman, having lived a full life of 96 years, passed away peacefully from this earth on Sept 28, 2017, and now joins her husband Dale E. Putman Sr. in Heaven. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00am on October 3, 2017 at St. Mary’s Cathedral with Rev. F. James Shurtleff officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ogdensburg.
She is survived by her children and their families: Sheila Day and her husband Ron of Heuvelton, NY; Michael Putman and his wife Sylvia Bounds of Farmington, NY; Dale Putman, Jr. and his wife Jayne of Maryland, NY; Stephen Putman and his wife Marcia of Canton, NY; Christine Putman of St. Augustine, FL; Kim Gudmundson and her husband David of Cupertino, CA; Julie Johnson of Ogdensburg, NY; Pamela Floyd and her husband Charles of Riverbank, CA; Tony Putman of Mt. Juliet, TN; Andrea Putman of Mt. Juliet, TN; grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Lisa Sargent and her husband Scott and children Sydney, Cale and Trent; Katrina Putman and her husband Steve and children Reed, Grant and Maeve; Geoffrey Day and his wife Emily; Jennifer and Emily Putman; Morgan Haxel and her husband Dan; Rachel Putman; Erika and Christopher Gudmundson; Courtney and Casey Floyd; Michael, David and Caleb Putman. She is predeceased by two children, Mary Agnes, and Jeffrey Donald & Granddaughter Kendahl Inez.
Eleanore was born Eleanore Frances O’Connor in Troy, NY on February 6, 1921, the daughter of Martin & Mary (Broderick) O’Connor. She graduated from a private Catholic school in Troy, NY and continued her education at Duquesne University where she earned her teaching degree. She later married Dale E. Putman on September 29, 1944.
During her career she was employed at Rensselaer Falls and Brier Hill schools and later became a homemaker devoting her life to raising her family. She enjoyed spending quiet time reading, listening to music, playing the piano, dancing with Dale Sr., traveling, and her volunteer work at Florida Hospital Deland. Dale predeceased her on May 8, 1984. Eleanore lived life on her own terms, and spent each day as she wanted.
