Angela “Angie” M. Bateman, 53, of Ogdensburg, sadly left this world much too soon on July 20, 2022 following a three-year struggle with serious medical issues that began with a leg injury. Her fearlessness and positivity fighting this difficult battle reflect the strength and determination she was known for.
Angie was born on May 30, 1969 to James H. and Rebecca A. (Phillips) Bateman in Ogdensburg, NY. Angie graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1987, then went on to earn an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Development from Mater Dei College in Ogdensburg. This is undoubtedly no surprise to anyone considering how much Angie absolutely adored children. Angie began working at Hackett’s Hardware in Ogdensburg when she was in high school and continued there for over 20 years until the store’s closing. She then worked for many years at the Carlisle Law Firm, also in Ogdensburg. Her pleasant personality, beautiful smile, and infectious laugh will certainly be remembered by her co-workers and customers alike.
Angie was predeceased by her father on October 29, 2018; her younger sister, Jennifer E. LaRue, on January 24, 2018; her paternal grandparents, James W. and Helen (Hannan) Bateman; and her maternal grandparents, George “Bud” and Lois (Grosch) Phillips. She is survived by her mother, who now lives in Huron, Ohio; her niece, Janelle LaRue, of Ogdensburg; and her two fur babies, kitties Pumpkin and Pickles. She is also survived by several aunts, uncles, and cousins; notably her Uncle John and Aunt Nancy Bateman; her cousin Erin (Dan) Mousaw and daughters, Hannah and Allyse; and her cousin Derek (Ginny) Bateman and daughters, Ella and Abby, all of Ogdensburg. It bears mentioning that she is also survived by her legions of cherished friends. Angie was a funny, joyful, giving human being with a heart as big as the universe. And she opened that kind, loving, welcoming heart, without hesitation, to every single person she met. Angie loved being with family and friends, spoiling her beloved cats, watching her tv shows and movies, and listening to her favorite music. Music meant a great deal to Angie and got her through her most difficult times. And no one’s music warmed her heart and soothed her soul more than that of Mr. Luke Bryan.
A Celebration of Life is being held at the Quality of Working Life Building, 642 County Route 28A, in Ogdensburg on Sunday, August 21, 2022 from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 pm. All are welcome, and we hope to see you there! In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Angie’s memory to the St. Lawrence Valley S.P.C.A., PO Box 594, Ogdensburg, NY 13669.
