Roy Houston “Tuffy” Overturff passed comfortably at his home in Odessa TX, at the age of 100 years old.
He is survived by his son Houston “Butch” Overturff and wife Hellen of Odessa TX, daughter Kathy Overturff - Gillis and husband Ozzie of Gardendale TX. He is also survived by his sisters Wanda Yates and husband J.R. of Lovington NM, and Lois Arlene Overturff - Smith of CA. as well as 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 18 great great grandchildren.
Tuffy was born February 5th 1914 in Tribby, OK to Della Norman and Roy Overturff. He was raised in Big Springs TX where he met and then married Gussie Molly Thompson on December 31, 1934 in Stanton TX. They later moved to Odessa where they raised their four children Shirley, Sherrell, Butch and Kathy. He also worked and retired after 44 years from Mapp Tank Co.
He enjoyed calf roping and horse training, which lead him to receive numerous awards and achievements. The greatest being his induction to the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame in 2008. Tuffy was a real cowboy and will be remembered as a true legend by so many.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years Gussie Overturff. His daughter Shirley Overturff – Taylor and son Sherrell Roy Overturff. As well as 5 brothers, a sister, a great granddaughter and a great grandson.
The services will be held at his home church Northside Baptist Church 100 W. 50th St. Odessa TX at 1:00pm Friday August 1st burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Brother Clydell Chapman will officiate the funeral services. Visitation will be Thursday July 31st from 6 to 8 pm. at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Hospice of Midland 911 W. Texas St. Midland TX 79701.
