ODESSA - Rose McCleery, age 90, passed away on Monday, October 31, 2016. Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Sherwood Church of Christ in Odessa, Texas. Internment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Rose was born on July 24, 1926 in Sterling City, Texas to Joe and Ollie Pearce King. Rose was raised on a ranch, and she had immense respect for 'ranch life' and those that chose ranching as a way of life. Rose worked at the Ector County Library and retired from the Library on December 12, 1988. After retirement, she assisted her husband as co-owner and operator of Allstate Machine In Odessa, Texas.
At 17, Rose married her best friend and the "Love of her Life," Forrest A. McCleery. Rose and Forrest married on February 25, 1943. Rose and Forrest enjoyed almost 73 years of marriage. Throughout their marriage, Forrest and Rose worked diligently to take care of each other's needs, and they spent a lifetime caring, visiting, and ministering to family and a host of life-long friends.
Rose was a long-time member of the Sherwood Church of Christ. She taught multiple children's classes, enjoyed calling, visiting, sending cards and ministering to members of the congregation. Rose's caring spirit and ministry was shared with all people she came in contact with, and hundreds of people were blessed by her genuine caring and giving spirit.
Rose is preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Ollie Pearce King; brothers, Loyd and J.S. King; her beloved daughter Brenda Bishop; and step dad, Fred Hodges.
Rose is survived by her loving husband, Forrest A. McCleery of Odessa, Texas; sister Joan Burkett of Odessa, Texas; daughter, Tina Nelms and husband Steve Nelms of Odessa, Texas; son Steve McCleery and wife Lynda of Hobbs, New Mexico; grandchildren, Hollee and husband David Gray of Amarillo, Texas; Jason Belcher of New York, New York; Denver Nelms and wife Jaime of Odessa, Texas; Lyndsee Cross and Husband Justin of Chadron, Nebraska; Stevie Villanueva and husband James of Odessa, Texas; Brittanee McCleery of Hobbs, New Mexico; great grandchildren, Beau Gray, Jaycee Villanueva, Brylee Gray, Jaydon Salcido, Hudson Cross, Aspen Nelms, Holden Cross, Bralynn Villanueva, Sydney Nelms, Hayes Cross and her Church Family, Sherwood Church of Christ.
Rose loved to cook for family and friends, and her cooking skills are legendary among church members, friends and family. As many people can attest: Rose Is personally responsible for thousands of unwanted pounds; however, it was impossible to resist her food. Thank You ROSE!!!!
Rose was a fantastic example for her family and friends. She was the consummate spouse, daughter, sister, mom, grandmother, great grandmother, friend, confidant, counselor, and one of GOD'S greatest creations.
