Nancy Laura Newton

Nancy was born in Jones County, Texas, to Aubrey and OV Williamson. She was the middle child, in a household of girls. Nancy graduated from Kermit High School, where she was a cheerleader and a member of the volleyball team. She went to business school in Austin, Texas, where she met the love of her life, Sherman Newton.

Nancy and Sherman married on June 2, 1951. Shortly after the honeymoon they moved to Odessa, where they raised their three children, Wendy Shermane, Kevin Lee, and Laura Camille. Nancy loved fashion often creating beautiful clothing for her children that started new trends. She was creative in many ways including sewing, needle point, and drawing dream home layouts and designs. She had a "green thumb," and was able to get all types of flowers to bloom. Everything Nancy did through her life centered around her love for God, she was a long time member of Eisenhower Church of Christ, and later Gardendale Church of Christ.

She will be remembered for her love for her family, strength, creativeness and her grit. She was a true nurturer and completely selfless.

Nancy is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, son, her parents, sisters, Mary Gladys Fielder, Annette Dowdle; brother in law, Calvin (Mutt) Fielder; and nephew, Keith.

Nancy is survived by her daughter Laura (Newton) Sawyers, grandson, William Lee; niece, Diane; nephews, Larry, Brent and Noel; and numerous cousins and friends.

A celebration of life for Nancy will be held Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home, 601 N Alleghaney Ave, Odessa, Texas 79761.
