

Lorenzo was born on October 15, 1972, in Pecos, Texas, to Lorenzo and Rosa Serrano.
Lorenzo graduated from Permian High School in 1991. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Business with a minor in Spanish from Tarleton State University, graduating in 1995.
Lorenzo, affectionately known as Larry, was a passionate sports enthusiast from an early age. He excelled in football, track, and baseball. In middle school, he set a record by running 357 yards in a single football game for Hood Junior High. During high school, he had the honor of playing as a flanker and wide receiver for Permian Football, participating in championships in 1989 and 1990. He also played outfield in baseball and led him to play baseball at Tarleton State University.
Lorenzo's love for sports led him to a career in education and coaching. He coached at Pecos High School, Odessa High School, and Trinity School of Midland. Later, he became co-owner of Abila’s Specialties with his brother and best friend, Mark.
Larry was always active and had grown to be an avid golfer over the years. If he could have had it his way, he would have played golf every day. He was known to all and if you were loved by him, you were part of his inner circle that he led with intentionality. Larry was a proud father of his two daughters, Savannah and Samantha, who he greatly cherished and loved. Larry carried himself with strength, love, and laughter during his time on earth.
Larry is survived by his daughters, Savannah Serrano of San Antonio, TX and Samantha Serrano of Odessa, TX. His father and mother, Lorenzo Sr. and Rosa Serrano of Odessa, Tx. His brother and sister, Mark and Melanie Serrano of Odessa, Tx and niece, Emily Serrano. . Larry is preceded in death by his Grandparents, Nicholas and Celia Abila, Luis Sr. and Guadalupe Serrano, his uncles, Benito “Benny” Abila and Francisco “Franky” Abila, and cousin, Cruz Abila Jr. He is survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family would like to acknowledge the loving friends and community that supported and provided love during his life and through tribulations. Larry had a character that attracted all who were around and continued to pursue a life of fullness to the very end. A special acknowledgement to his sister, Michelle Mendoza, as she cared for and aided in his journey the past year that provided abundance support to the Serrano Family.
Special thanks to Larry’s oncologist, Dr. Gia Marotta, whose compassionate care, unwavering support, and inspiring presence were a true blessing during his health journey.
A visitation for Lorenzo will be held Sunday, April 27, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home, 601 North Alleghaney, Odessa, TX 79761, with a rosary service to start at 5:00 PM. A funeral mass will occur Monday, April 28, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 907 S Dixie Blvd, Odessa, TX 79761.
