Joyce Wiersma

Joyce was born October 21, 1938 in Snyder, Texas to Leta and Floyd Stephens. She graduated from Wink High School in 1957 and attended Odessa College.

She married Glenn A. Wiersma on July 18, 1958 in Odessa, Texas. She retired from E. C. I. S. D. in 1994.

She was a long time member of First Baptist Church.

Joyce loved to oil paint, collect recipes, and cook. She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren. She also enjoyed her many trips to Hawaii, and she spoke of the beautiful landscape and flowers often.

She was preceded in death by her parents Leta and Floyd Stephens.

Survivors include her husband, Glenn Wiersma of Odessa; her daughters Suzan Sands and husband Rodney Sands of Odessa; Beth Mathis of Odessa; grandchildren, Kenneth Thomas and wife Kimberly of San Antonio, Texas; Tommy Thomas of Hutto, Texas; Bryce Mathis of Lubbock, Texas and Emily Mathis of Odessa, Texas; sisters, Glenda Nobles Hudson of Odessa; Ann Matthews and husband Lawrence of Walnut Cove, North Carolina and brother; Ronald Stephens and wife Marjorie of McAllen, Texas.

The family requests memorials be directed to Hospice House Foundation, 903 N. Sam Houston, Odessa, TX. 79761.

The family of Joyce Wiersma wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the doctors and nurses of Hospice and the nurses and staff on the fourth floor of ORMC.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 23, 2012 at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Curtis Brewer officiating.

Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
