Joe was born on June 23, 1945 in Muleshoe, Texas. He was the only son of Jack and Sue Melton. He graduated from Odessa High School in 1963. He then joined the United States Air Force. Joe proudly served as a medic and was stationed at Lackland AFB, in San Antonio, TX, and Perrin AFB, in Sherman, TX. After a Honorable discharge, he worked in the oil field for 35 years. Joe started with El Paso Products, and eventually retired as a pumper for Deven Energy.
Joe was a devoted Father, Grandfather and Great- Grandfather. His first marriage was to Charlotte Melton, together they had two children, Sharon and Jack. His second marriage was to Nina Melton and her daughter, Rebecca. His third wife is Carol Melton and her children, Lisa and Christopher.
Joe was a beloved Mason. He received the Golden Trowel three times, had a White Hat in the Scottish Rite. Joe was, also, a member of El Maida Shrine of Odessa. He was a District Deputy Grand Master five times and was a District Instructor. Joe was a Ham Radio enthusiast, and though referred to as Amateur Radio Operator, there was nothing amateur about his skill.
Joe was a true friend to many people and he never met a stranger. His passions and love for life will be missed by all that knew him.
Joe is survived by his wife of 15 years, Carol; children, Sharon (Ernie)Villalva, Jack Melton, Rebecca Brown, Lisa (Les) Spencer, Christopher DeHay; grandchildren, Cole (Amberly) Lyssy, Kelbi Brown; 4 great grandchildren and many friends.
A visitation for Joe will be held Friday, December 6, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home, 601 North Alleghaney, Odessa, TX 79761. A graveside service will occur Saturday, December 7, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Sunset Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home, 6801 E, Odessa, TX 79762.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made in Joe's name to the Scottish Rite Hospital or Shriner Hospital.
