James Carl Bryant, 80, of Odessa, passed away Saturday, July 24, 2021 after a long battle with dementia and heart failure. He was born October 24, 1940 in Hobbs, NM to the late Essie (Porter) and Jack Bryant.
He (“Peanut”) was quarterback for the ’59 OHS football team. Jimmy married Suellis Smith on July 1, 1960 in Odessa. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and anything that allowed him to be with his grandchildren. He loved watching his four grandsons play Permian football and watching his granddaughter, Tatem, sing and perform.
Jim was self-employed. He owned Bryant and Duncan Insurance Agency where his sisters also worked with him. He was also a rancher and loved to share ranching with others. He was a member of the Odessa Chamber of Commerce, Chuck Wagon Gang, Board of Realtors and Sherwood Church of Christ.
Jimmy is survived by his wife of 61 years, Suellis Bryant; daughters, Shelly Bryant Brown and husband Terry and Amy Bryant Garman and husband Darin; sisters, Jacquelyn Smith and Walterene Hollowman; five grandchildren, Tatem Morris and husband Will, Carson Brown and wife Kacee, Barrett Brown and wife Sara, Brennan Welch and Jax Welch; and great grandchildren, Ainslee Morris, Jack Morris, Sadie Brown, Weston Brown, and one on the way.
Graveside services will be Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at 10 AM at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Matthew Nzere officiating. Carson Brown, Barrett Brown, Brennan Welch, Jax Welch and Will Morris will serve as pallbearers.
