Henry S. Salcido, 86, of Odessa, passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2023. He was born January 25, 1937 in Barstow, TX. He was raised in Pecos, TX but resided in Sunnyvale, California for 50 years. He married Delores Salcido on August 31, 1990.
He loved Jesus and wanted everyone to love Jesus too. He is the first of 16 siblings and enjoyed family time. Henry’s passion was boxing and golf and he was a competitive soul and professional boxer. He also worked as a commercial painter for some time. He served his country and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in the Marine Corps Reserve. Henry’s hobbies included collecting coins and pins and he collected albums from a various range of artists to include Frank Sinatra, Waylon Jennings, Bruce Springsteen, Jose Feliciano and Aretha Franklin. He ran 5 miles every morning, which he truly enjoyed. He loved the San Francisco 49ers, which was convenient since he lived only two miles away from Levi Stadium.
He was an amazing gentleman of unique and many talents. Henry’s most enduring qualities were his sense of wisdom and strength. He relished the opportunity to mentor loved ones when they faced challenges, encouraging his family to persevere through hard times with the timeless quotes “God given talents” and “You can accomplish anything you set your mind to.”
Henry is survived by his brothers, Carlos Salcido of Odessa, Natividad “Nati” Salcido and wife Teresa, Inez Salcido Sr. and wife Manuela, Thomas Salcido and Raul Salcido and wife Anita of Odessa; sisters, Modesta Juarez and husband Patricio, Maria Ortiz, Jesusita Luna, Candy Garcia and husband Johnny, Frances Orona and husband Johnny, Emma Adame and husband Rudy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Delores Salcido; sons, Robert B. Salcido and Raymond B. Salcido; parents, Julio and Catarina Salcido; brothers, Rodolfo “Dofies” Salcido, Juan Salcido and Benino Salcido; and sister, Julia Salcido.
The family will receive friends for visitation at the funeral home on Monday, February 27th from 1-9 PM and Tuesday, February 28th from 9 AM-9 PM with the Rosary Tuesday at 7 PM. A funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at 10 AM at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Natividad “Nati” Salcido, Thomas Salcido, Raul Salcido, Daniel “Danny” Juarez, Inez Salcido Jr and Brandon Adame will serve as pallbearers.
