Heaven gained a quick-witted carpenter October 15, 2022. Our precious Daddy, H. Dean Crow Jr., was born at home to Mary Amanda (Willis) Crow and H. Dean Sr. on April 22, 1927. His talent with wood was passed on to many that he loved, especially his two sons, Willis Paul Crow and Russell Dean Crow. He frequently said, "A man lives through his children." With a total of 41 children and grandbabies, which Daddy could rattle off all of their names. It's safe to say that his earthly legacy lives on. Daddy sought out the best of the best to learn from. Now he can spend eternity in his prime, doing what he loves with the best carpenter ever, Jesus Christ. He was strong in body and beliefs, and willing to prove it. He loved unconditionally, always opening his home to family and friends, offering help to those in need, yet believing in a hand up, rather than a hand out. As a boy, he helped his family make ends meet by delivering newspapers, shining shoes, selling fireworks, and building campaign wagons pulled by stray dogs during election seasons. His love for his country led him to join the U.S. Navy at 17 years old. He served in the Naval Seabees "Construction Battalion" where he built and amateur boxed a little, but joked a lot! After returning to the States, he attended Sul Ross State University where he played football for a season. He was voted into the Hillsboro Masonic Lodge #196, in which he was recently awarded a 71 year membership award. He eventually moved to Odessa where he purchased a piece of land on Carolyn Drive. There he started his business, built a beautiful home, and raised a family, which he was very pleased with! Daddy enjoy teasing many neighborhood kids which gained fond memories of being spooked by firework shenanigans and stories about a one-toothed man in his shop. He lived a colorful and independent life in the comfort of his home, until his passing at 95 years of age. He was joyfully greeted by his parents, sisters, Estelle Middleton and Mary Louise Hawthorne, brother Willis Paul, a special brother-in-law Johnny Middleton, and cherished niece, Jane Tarver, along with multiple other loved ones and friends.
Living out God's will here on earth and patiently waiting to be reunited are his 3 children, their families as well as dear friends. One special lady friend, Louise Kendall, lengthened his latter years. His legacy includes Paul (Crockett) and wife Kay Crow of Odessa, Russell (Rusty) and wife Lynn Crow of Bloomington, Indiana, Rachel (Princess) and husband Troy Wellmann of Junction, Texas. Grandchildren: Amy, Daniel and wife Marsha, Sarah and husband Jose, Marie, Christy and husband Bryan, Megan, TW and wife Sandy, Amanda and husband Mike, Nicole and husband Chestin, Morgan and husband Ben. Great-grandchildren: Raquel, Abby, Belle, Bailey, Emily, Cassandra, Mason, Jacob, Joseph, Emma, Philip, baby Medema, Zac, Avery, Jayden, Kinsley, and Tripp. And one great-great grandchild, Olyvia Rose.
Daddy believed in "a dollar saved is a dollar earned", so spend it carefully. In lieu of flowers, please give that money towards your local church or another worthy cause.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 21, 2022 from 6-8 PM in the chapel of Odessa Funeral Home, in Odessa, TX. We will celebrate the life of H. Dean Crow Jr. on Saturday, October 22, 2022.
