Odessa Candida Eva (Connie) Talavera, 74, joined our Heavenly Father to begin her eternal reward on September 26. She was born on June 8, 1937 in Marfa, Texas to Felicito and Margarita Granado. Candida spent most of her childhood in Ft. Davis, Texas and called Odessa her home for the past fifty years. She married, the love of her life, Catarino Talavera in 1952, and they enjoyed 32 years of marriage. Connie attended Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, serving as a First Communion teacher, a Eucharistic minister, and a member of the Ladies Altar and Rosary Society.
Connie is preceded in death by her father Felicito Granado, mother Margarita Martinez, husband Catarino Talavera, brothers Gilberto Granado and Mario Martinez; daughter Juanita Cruz, and granddaughter Jessica Cruz. Connie is survived by sisters Mary Lou Baeza and husband Yren Baeza of Ft. Worth; Aurora Martinez of Carlsbad, New Mexico; brother Felicito Granado, Jr. and wife Arabella; aunt Alicia Escobedo and husband Frank of Kent, Texas; her sons; Joe Talavera, Sr. and Daniel Talavera of Odessa, daughters; Ana Miller and husband Don of Odessa; Frances Sanchez and husband Johnny of Odessa; Teresa Sanchez and husband Daniel of Midland; grandsons Joe Talavera, Jr. and wife Laressa of Odessa; Thomas Camacho, Jr. of Odessa; granddaughters Cecilia Ochoa and husband Ruben of Midland; Valerie Sanchez of Odessa, Estella Leal and husband Andy of Odessa; Sara Sanchez and Mayah Sanchez of Midland; Kabrina Sanchez of Odessa; Robert Sanchez and Mercedes Sanchez of Odessa; William Navarrette and Selena Navarrette of Houston and great grandchildren Arianna Leal of Odessa; Jermiah Camacho of Odessa; Camden Bickle, Cody Bickle and Chase Bickle of Odessa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
We would like to extend our sincere and heartfelt gratitude to Irma Valencia who devotedly shared her love for Christ with Mom; to Rosemary Nunez and Olga Tijerina who assisted in providing care and comfort during Mom’s last earthly days, and to the many nurses, doctor, and staff of Home Hospice for providing the support and care to make our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother’s final days more comfortable and her passing to her New Life a peaceful transition.
A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at Hubbard Kelly Funeral Home. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 29, 2011 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church by Fr. Arturo Pestin followed by graveside burial services at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Home Hospice of Odessa or to Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.
