It was in the early 1980’s , in the small town of Jacksonville , North Carolina when we first met the Rauto Family . Our family just travelled several states from California to get to Camp Lejeune, Johnny’s new military assignment . As a young family we yearned to meet other families . It wasn’t long before we met other Filipino / American military families who were likewise assigned to Camp Lejeune . 
It was at Robert and Nene’s home that we felt welcomed . This was the start of a decades long friendship . Robert was the epitome of friendliness and genuine warmth . These traits were carried through the years . We reconnected again in San Diego California where our families occasionally had a chance to get together . We were abreast of each other’s family happenings , due in fact to social media . It was in retirement that we were able to truly spend time together again . Robert remained the man he was . His love for Nene and their children , Roxanne and Ronnie  was a priority , only made second when the grandchildren were born . He was a loving / caring grandfather who was always at hand for any of their needs . I got to know him as an avid gardener . We shared the passion for plants and gardening . His garden is worthy of a page at BETTER  HOMES AND GARDEN ! Despite going through some critical health challenges. Robert remained positive about life . Him and Nene continued their adventures and love for travel . Most of all
their family was bonded by their love and care . To Nene , Roxanne , Ronnie and their families , we extend our utmost sympathies and love . May your memories of Robert be the source of strength through this difficult time . 
Rest in Peace dear Robert . You lived a great life and your memory will remain amongst us that knew you .
