surrounded by loved ones at the age of 89. Born March 18, 1935, in Wailuku,
Maui to Antonio and Juana Garcia, Jo was the youngest child of 15. After
marrying John Martin Jr. on November 20, 1954, Jo and John moved around
due to military service and settled in Oceanside, Ca.
While being a Marine wife and mother of 6 children, Jo also had a career of
her own. She worked for Deutsch Electronics in Oceanside as well Hughes
Aircraft/Raytheon where she retired in 1997. Jo was very involved within the
Hawaiian community throughout Southern California. From making lei at the
Mission San Luis Rey Luau every Spring to attending numerous festivals
throughout the year, Jo was always there to give her aloha and a smile. From
its inception in 2011, she would attend the San Diego Ho'olaule'a and sit
under the Kupuna tent where she would reminisce and share stories with her
ohana and longtime friends. She was an avid seamstress sewing gowns and
Aloha shirts for special events and multiple wedding parties. She enjoyed
doing puzzles and the occasional trip to the casino where you would find her
at her favorite, a Keno machine.
Jo was predeceased by her husband John, daughter Carol and grandchildren
Mechelle, Regina and Jose. She is survived by Sibling- Albert (Rose) Garcia;
Children- Johnelle (Rod) Jackson, Jordan (Marla) Martin, Melissa (Tony)
Martinez, Sherri Martin Ayala, and Winona Martin Brooks; 20 grandchildren,
43 great grandchildren, and 9 great-great grandchildren.
