John decided to join the United States Marine Corp after High School and served his Country honorably.
His bravery during the Vietnam War earned him the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He led platoons of infantry units in combat, ran many search and rescue missions, and always prioritized the well-being of his Marines before his self. He retired honorably from the United States Marine Corps with the rank of Master Sergeant (MSgt).
Upon retirement from the United States Marine Corps John also worked and retired for a second time from the Carlsbad Unified School District.
John was a brave and loyal Marine, as well as a patient and loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
John passed away on September 04, 2020, at Tri City Medical Center of natural causes.
John is survived by his wife of 65 years, Josephine Martin, and children Johnelle (Rod) Jackson, Jordan (Marla) Martin, Carol (Ron) Lewis, Sherri (Jose) Ayala, Melissa (Tony) Martinez, and Winona (Ricky) Brooks. He also leaves behind many Grandchildren, Great-Grandchildren, Great-great Grandchildren and 1 surviving brother Donald Martin.
Services will be held Saturday,September 19, 2020 at Eternal Hills Cemetary and Mortuary in Oceanside, CA. Time 10:00 A.M.
