Jeannie was born in Brooklyn, NY on March 31st, 1946. She spent her childhood surrounded by loving family, and helping her mother Adele and father “Slim” run the boarding house where they all lived.
She married young, and was delighted to have a son, Claude in1965. She later remarried Warren Esposito and moved to Los Angeles, California in 1966 where she then had a daughter Katherine and son Michael.
She flourished as a mother, devoting herself to her family and community. She volunteered tirelessly; from class mom, to Indian Guides, to Girl Scouts, to writing for the local paper, to scorekeeping for Little league, you name it, Jeannie volunteered for it!
As her kids grew, so did her interest in expanding her horizons. She continued her education, graduating from Occidental College with a BA in 1990. As well, she was certified as a travel agent and became an instrumental volunteer with Japanese exchange students, “adopting” Makoto as a fourth child.
She later relocated to North County San Diego. It was not until she became a Nana in 2000, that she found her true glory. She cherished her relationships with all of her grandkids; Michael, Janet, Layna, Nate and Thomas. Nothing pleased her more than to cook with them, have sleepovers, going to the movies, making elaborate themed gifts, taking them on trips and showering them with the love only a Nana can give.
Balancing All Star Alliance, her own business, along with volunteering, she was quite active in the community. She most enjoyed her work with the Optimist Club, especially their annual oratorical contest and working with the children of veterans. She was also an active parishioner at St. Elizabeth Seton’s in Carlsbad, devoted to her faith.
She maintained many loyal friendships throughout the years, she especially enjoying socializing with her singles & poker groups, the horseraces at Del Mar, church bingo and visiting local casinos.
In recent years, she fulfilled her lifelong dream of travel. With her best friends, she adventured to see the beauty of Alaska, Amsterdam, Italy and a special trip to New York, taking in every moment with joy. Her specific dream was to travel with her grandkids. She was elated to take the trip of her lifetime with her oldest grandchild Janet to see France, Spain & London in 2016. She has left the legacy of travel for her other grandkids, with an endowment for them to enjoy an adventure with their Papa.
Her friends and family will remember Jeannie the most for her love of cooking delicious food, gracious entertaining, faith in God and zest for life. In her kitchen is painted her motto “Food feeds the body, faith feeds the spirit, family and friends feed the soul”. Nothing more true could be said about the way she lived her life.
Jeannie is preceded in death by her loving parents, sisters, brother, aunts and son Claude. They are sure to have welcomed her into Heaven with much love. Carrying on her memory with pride, she is survived by ex-husband, children, grandkids, nieces, nephews and many friends.
